The Guggul plant can be found from Northern Africa to Central Asia, but is common in Northern India. It grows well in arid and semi-arid climate and tolerates poor soil. It is a shrub or tree which usually has a height of 4m. The branches of the plant are thorny and have simple leaves.
The resin has been used in Ayurvedic preparations for centuries to treat various ailments, including obesity, bone fractures, arthritis, inflammation, cardiovascular disease and lipid disorders.
