Green tea is created from the Camellia sinensis plant. It is prepared by boiling and pan-frying the Camellia sinensis leaves and then drying them. The dried leaves and leaf buds are utilized to make different teas, including black tea. This green tea is not fermented, hence it can maintain important molecules called polyphenols, which appear to be responsible for many of its benefits. Also, this tea contains caffeine.
Benefits of Green Tea Extract
1. High in antioxidants
The health benefits of green tea extract are mainly due to its high antioxidant property. Antioxidants can help lower oxidative stress in your body by fighting cell damage caused by free radicals. Green tea extract may help increase your body’s antioxidant capacity and protects against oxidative stress.
2. May promote heart health
The antioxidants in green tea extract may help reduce inflammation and help lower blood pressure. They can also hinder fat absorption in cells, helping lessen blood fat levels. A study found that people with obesity and high blood pressure took 379 mg of green tea extract daily for 3 months and showed a notable decrease in blood pressure. Also, experienced considerable reductions in blood fat levels, including lower triglycerides and both total and LDL cholesterol.
3. Good for the brain
The antioxidants present in green tea extract, particularly EGCG, have been shown to protect brain cells from oxidative stress. It may help reduce brain damage that could lead to mental deterioration and brain diseases. Also, can help memory by improving the connection between different parts of your brain.
4. Can help with weight loss
Green tea extract is known to be rich in catechins and has a decent amount of caffeine. Both catechins and caffeine have been shown to help in weight loss by regulating the hormones that may improve thermogenesis. Thermogenesis is the procedure by which your body burns calories to digest food and produce heat. Also, green may boost this process by making your body more effective at burning calories.
5. May be good for the skin
Green tea extract has been shown to improve skin health, whether taken as a supplement or applied to the skin. Also, it may help with a variety of skin concerns, such as dermatitis, rosacea, and warts. As a supplement, it may help with skin aging and acne too.
6. May help lower blood sugar
The catechins present in green tea have been shown to improve insulin sensitivity and regulate the production of blood sugar, both of which can help lower blood sugar levels. Also, green tea extract may help lower levels of hemoglobin A1C, which is an indicator of blood sugar levels
7. May help in liver function
Catechins in green tea extract may also help lessen inflammation caused by some liver diseases, such as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. It is important to have your liver functions tested regularly.
8. May reduce the risk of cancer
A study found the effects of taking 600 mg of green tea catechins per day for a year on men at the chance of developing prostate cancer.
Also, drinking green tea may help reduce the risk of developing endometrial cancer.
